Press Reviews : Eastern Promise for Lorna Forbes

A Mearns business woman is currently the toast of the middle east fashion world with her clothes designing talents clinching an order for the Royal family of Jordan. Lorna Forbes, owner of Laurencekirk based Exclusively Yours, is currently working on special designs for babies born in the royal palace in Amman.

She recently travelled over to Jordan to meet with, the King and Queen of the middle east state only to be disappointed when they had to leave suddenly for Norway. During her trip which also took in Syria and the Lebanon, Loma made vital contacts which could result in some fruitful business orders.

Lorna, who is chairman of the Stonehaven Business Association, has also been asked to teach young clothes designers in Damascus. Her story started last February at a seminar in Glasgow on the Levant (the area covering Syria the Lebanon and Jordan) hosted by Scottish Trade International. This led to an interview with a commercial officer from the British Embassy in Jordan and from that her name was passed onto Royal Palace officials.

Lorna takes up the story: "I was asked if I could make a present for the babies born in the Royal Palace (of Jordan) and which the King would be able to give to these babies. Although I didn't meet with the King and Queen because they had to fly to Norway I have made some presents and will be sending the orders out to the Royal family". Lorna also travelled as part of a British trade mission to Damascus, said to be the oldest existing city in the world, before heading to Aleppo in the north of Syria.

After meeting with some traders in the town Lorna is now waiting to hear if her trip will result in prosperous business con- tracts. She has also been asked to travel back to Damascus to set up a dress design school and teach 18-25 year old students: Not surprisingly Lorna is very keen on a return trip but work commitments here need to be met first, But her impressions of the area may prove the bail for a return jaunt. "The Syrians are so friendly and warm and very eager to find out about the outside world." she said. So much so, that a special feature on her was featured in the 'Syrian Times', the country's main newspaper.
